The BP needs to be between 2''-6'' below the bottom grate, I prefer 3.5''-4'' range. The top of the FB can be the same height as the BP or a little lower if you want to install a shadow plate above the throat. The area below the BP can't be smaller than the throat but it can be larger without any issues.
Hi, hope I can answer your questions, this is my understanding of it:Hydrant wrote:Sorry to butt in here guys but I think you’ve answered the question I’ve been looking for an answer to. Only now I I need to know what heck a “BP” is?! And a shadow plate?
Thanks,

BP = Baffle Plate, the plate which runs almost the length of the cooking chamber, thus creating the reverse flow channel.
Shadow plate = extra shielding plate located below the BP, extending out from the firebox, to prevent a hotspot on the BP in that location.
If I got it wrong, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly
Very good thanksBig T wrote:Yes the same size or close as you can get to it will be fine. You can always close it down to where you need it.
