Might change to RF, questions

Post by Tipps » May 28th, 2018, 2:00 pm

I’ve started a build from a 150 gallon tank. And the further along I get I’m wondering if I should make it a RF. Was gonna do a traditional, but might change.

I’ve got the throat cut out in my firebox per the calculations, but it’s football shape (will that still work). Firebox is right at 110%. In a RF, do you direct the heat down into the full length reverse chamber, or keep it traveling level?

What about the opening on the far end, does it need to match the throat area?

Also, does exhaust go up top or grate level with the reverse flows?

Thanks, any other basic advice would be helpful. Never attempted this style

Rf will provide more even temps...many people who build a traditional offset spend a ton of time after the build making tuning plates so why not just do it right feom the begining?

Firebox size is fine...the top of the baffel plate is typically straight i line with top of firebox. Shape of throat is of no matter.

Gap for baffle plate should be same size as throat...no bigger.

I recommend top mounted exaust...dont want to trap the smoke.

Let us know how we can help.
