Or both. That way you can regulate the heck out of the thing. Warm food or cook biscuits... :D

I'm wishing now I would have built that box from 1/4 plate. It will be a lot of work and a waste of the 3/16 but I might have enough 1/4 to redo it. Am I thinking over the top or will the 3/16 be ok?

My fire box is not insulated so there will probably be a considerable amount of heat in that box anyway.

Personally I'd go with 1/4.

I would add both dampers to the WC that you've already got. I would normally recommend 1/4'' but since you've already built it from 3/16'' I wouldn't rebuild it. I've seen Gizmo build a few CC's from 3/16'' with 1/4'' FB and he never had any issues. jm2cw

I made the decision to cut off the 3/16 box. I have the material to make it 1/4 so I'll do it in 1/4. I did have some warpage with the 3/16 anyway from welding it to top of the cc. I think I will be happier in the end.

Well when I built the box. All I had was the 3/16 to work with, so I used it, like I said it did warp a bit on the back panel. I was going to have to cut one whole side because I fully welded it not thinking about how I was going to make the door for it. So kill a few birds, make it out of more stout material, pre plan the door, and it won't be warped. It's not a huge setback, so I will just do it.

Got my box cut off. I have about 45 min into the grinding. Just a little more left.

:LG: That cooker is shaping up nicely. You will be happy with the warming cabinet if you put dampers between the WC and the FB as well as between the CC and the WC. As AJ said, "you can regulate the heck out of the thing." You will be able to make jerky at 155 degrees or cook a pizza at over 500 degrees, or dial in any temp in between.

Yeah I am going to damper between the fb an the cc, I started tacking the new box together yesterday, then it started pouring down rain, so I wrapped it up for the day. I am about to go out and work on it some more now before more rain comes. Going to be a wet few days over here. I'm going to carry my wc door material into work with me tomorrow so I can have it cut on a water jet.

Is there a cubic inch recommendation as far as the damper openings? Should I measure it out and treat it like its own cc and put it through the calculator?

And a friendly reminder to always wear your safety glasses, looks like a trip to the doc in a box to get a shard removed from my eye.

Yeah it seams even if you have glasses on they still find their way in, or welding you get a little slag ball go right into your ear, had that happen today too.

Still have to weld in a track for the slide damper, and make the damper for the back side of the box. Coming along slowly but surely.

I hear ya dude, I had a big chunk bounce off my cheek into the back of the safety glasses lense & then into my eye, saw the whole thing happen & now I use my sealed glasses that I used to have to wear on the refinery, haven't had a problem since. :kewl:

The slag ball is always annoying, my favourite is in your shoe. One went in between my big toe when I was wearing my asics bogan safety sneakers. Steel caps all the way now cause that was soooooo painful. :?

Started trimming out the door, trim material is 1 1/2" x 3/16" the darkness and the mosquitos got the best of me. Tomorrow is another day.

The angle is just a temporary tacked on handle, my handles are going to be solid 7/8" stainless round bar that will rotate inside of 2x3 1/4 tubing.

By the way thanks everyone for the encouragement, opinions, help. I have been a member of another forum I had a thread on this same build but response back for questions and such was painfully slow. If they were answered at all. Thanks. My goal is to be smoking by Memorial Day weekend. I think I am at a good pace.

It never ceases to amaze me what the folks on this forum can do with a little treasure hunting and a vision, nice work and what a cool compact design.
