hmm, not sure where my posts have gone...
Will try again.. Finished up with the stacks, latches, doors etc, cleaned up most of my Gorilla welds, and added a pull handle. Will season tomorrow after putting on the sealing tape. I will be using some teak that I can get readily, and getting a truck load of Oak and Mopane wood on Monday.

Thanks all for the encouragement and advice along the way. This forum is awesome, and I don't think I could have completed the build with the support. I've had to improvise my latches , trying to import some decent "smoker latches". We'll see how that goes. But for now, they are art least workable and seal nicely.
A couple of pics of the build...

Started me thinking of my next build already... I have a friend who is interested in a small smoker. I am looking at the "Mini Gravity Feed". Any thoughts?

The gravity feeds are great but are completely different than the reverse flow you just built. The mini is a nice pit and a lot of satisfied builders but make sure your friend knows the difference.

Hi All,

Seasoned with canola oil for 5 hours, then cooked a couple boerwörs, and and a 2 KG sirloin roast. I think all is well. The unit maintained temps nicely, and I was able to dial up and down between 225-300 with some efficiency. All in all a great first day...... Many beers and some great single malt whisky was consumed as we christened the smoker.

Thanks for the thread and pics. I have a Mack in my sights and want a patio style instead of a trailer so I was glad to see your build.

A quick update, here are some photos after sand blasting and powder coating. I chose a rustic burnt orange to kind of match the terra-cotta tiles on my verandah. Also attached are some pics of my first and second cook. They both turned out spectacular. There is a learning curve to stick fire management. Also experimenting with different local woods.

Dry nice.....and congrats.

Agree the fire management is tricky. You will get a bit better at every cook, just be patient.

Thanks all, Have a few more cooks under my belt now, and loving every minute I spend with my smoker. It's also a great conversation piece the first time people see it....It was a very interesting and pleasurable experience, so much that I'm setting my sights on build number 2. Looking for a smaller version. Have a friend who is interested in one, but doesn't have the space for this beast. Any ideas.

Franks new patio offset/ reverse flow looks like it would be perfect. The 20-40 I believe he calls it.
