That wood will come in real handy when you get your smoker finished.

Looking good. And very nice wood stack there as well.

Finally finished with wood. Had to add on to the woodshed. Installed the intake dampers.

Added latches to the doors. Don't need them popping open on the road.

Little Alice won't lift the whole thing anymore. Going to get help to load it on the trailer to get it sandblasted.

:yth: I used the same latches that you have on your FB and WC and they ended up being more trouble than they were worth. Once the got hot a few times, they became so stiff that I had to hit them to open or close them. I'm not knocking you for using them, just speaking from my experience with them.

Thanks for the input. I only screwed the latches on just in case they didn't work right. I know they make heavier duty ones, would that work better or go to a different style?

If all you want is to keep the doors closed when transporting it, I might suggest just a simple flat tab with a hole in the center welded to both the door and pit body. When needed, just clip a carabiner thru it to keep it from rattling open.

Read an article once where a guy got in the habit of throwing a simple padlock on his tabs when he did an ‘on-site’ smoke. Claimed every time he walked away someone would get curious and open the lids to look at the progress. Obviously, a bunch of that and his timing to serve the meal would be thrown off as the cook would take much longer. Probably a bit extreme but tabs could have additional benefits.

Added cross members and a lot of welding. Now it's off to get sandblasted and painted.
