Picked up a piece of wood for a front shelf!
Tell me what you think.

That'll make a nice looking shelf.

Nice but it is going to need a good sealant to keep all the drippings and bbq mess easy to clean off of it.

I'm going to use food grade mineral oil to seal it. I will be good with the patina that will come with age and drippings. Just going to add character.

Might want to rethink that idea.....high gloss and wipe-able is what you want. I had a wood shelf that was just oiled and after a time it is just filthy dirty and cannot be cleaned......

:yth:
Had to strip my wood handle on the blue smoker and reseal it for that reason. Unless you get a hard seal on the wood, it just attracts dirt/grease/etc.

I was able to cut and mitre all the rack material tonight. Still moving closer towards the end.

Is the expanded metal flattened? for the racks?

Yes, you want the flat expanded metal. It's much easier to clean and you can slide things around on the flat.

Bonus! Expanded metal is a pain to cut with a wheel. Plasma is not bad if your machine will allow automatic re-starts but a shear is AWESOME!

One tidy little package!
Only down side, very very sharp edges!
Let’s just say we have given the blood sacrifice ! Lol

Lol. I burn through bandages. Surprised to find I’m bleeding from so many places when I clean up some days.

Now just dropping the expanded metal makes it look more like a smoker.

Not a lot of work getting done, but we were able to weld all the expanded metal to the racks and the stack showed up!

Very cool. I have to say I do like your collector/stack set up. Did you say is this going on a trailer?

Yes it will be going on trailer, I hope to get working on that this week. We’ve been collecting tubes and angles. The new wheels and tires showed up Friday.
