The tank specs are 68"x24" What size firebox should I have and should I cut one end off to have flat surface to weld firebox on.

tom and frank have pit calculators and helped me with sizing firebox and stack and chamber opening so im sure they will chime in. how thick is that plate. if its less than 1/4 i dont know if you would want to use that for your firebox. needs to be thick to hold heat and not distort i think. just a suggestion your gonna have a good rig tho. you gonna make it mobil or stationary. you might want to notch the tank and slide the firbox in. check out the pics of the king cooker project and see if you like the design.

The plate is 3/8" for top and bottom. I have 1/4 inch for everything else.

Yes it will be mobile. I will post pic of trailer when I get it. It is a trailer the rental place had to haul 1 yard of ready mix concrete. It is built like a tank. It actually has working surge brakes on it. I will probably take all That off and weld a new tongue on the front. It would look a lot better

What a fantastic show of goods for a smoker project.

If ya let us know the size of the tank and some of the possible details of what you are wanting to do we should be able to help out.

I use almost the same hinge on alot of things, the only difference is the ones I have do not have the grease fitting on them.

The best part is, if ya don't get it right the first time, just cut it off and start over.

Thank u smoker Tom. I thought I couldn't go wrong with them. They were only 5.25 a piece. Couldn't buy material to make them for that

I always use the Dewalt XP cut off wheels and they last fairly well. The ones Tom uses sound better tho. I can't remember the brand tho.

I use Metabo and ummmm I think its sait brand.
The metabo's are awesome but better make darn sure you are wearing your safety glasses as tiny pieces of graphite go everywhere. It hurts, LOL thats all I'm gonna say about this LOL.

I probably should mention that I also use 6" disc in a grinder with a 6" guard on it.

These things come APART on occasion. I'm not picking on any brands,,, they all will let go on ya if the conditions are right.
I have used them in a 4" with no guard but anymore I feel that my body parts are worth more then the convenience of not having the guard.

There is a fine line between letting them dance around and hogging into the cut to hard. Both will kill a disc fast. Just feel it out and you will find the sweat spot pretty quick.

Oh yes,

Walter is the company that has the awesome grinder and flap wheels. They also make a zip disc but I have not been able to try it yet. There other products last about 5 to 1.

I have some spare time at work so I started building the firebox. I was limited to my dimensions because the top and bottom plates are off the mounting plate off of the tank I bought. The middle pieces are from the scrapyard. I paid 10 bucks for a piece 12"x48". It was a quarter so I thought That was pretty good. The price of metal is going thru the roof

No it hasn't warped yet. I just have it tacked right now. Not going to weld it good until I have one end on. I think that will help. I was wrong the two side pieces are a heavy 5/16
