My First smoker build 120 Gal reverse flow

Post by cdarnell » December 18th, 2012, 12:37 am

I have been wanting to build this for about 10 years now and finally have gotten to it.

Here are the spec's
120 gal 3/16" wall tank
Firebox 24X24X24 1/4" plate bit over size but think it will be fine
5" stack 36" long

Yep - she'll be a looker for sure.
Ten years to design it is about right don't you think? Isn't procrastination a terrible thing? :D

I can understand you on the delay, time just gets away from us. It took me even longer to make my last one. Your going to really like it though.

got more done today, should be ready to build a fire in it tomorrow to let it burn for a couple of hours for the seasoning before the first real smoking. I think some salmon will be the first run, then a pork butt and then on to the ribs...

only problem, the damn weather is cold here about 12 degrees right now, but it should get up to the mid 30's tommorow so we will see how it goes.

Question about the ash, should I knock it thru the grate every few hours to help the wood breath or leave it alone?

Your gonna have to crawl underneath and write the first smoke date on the bottom somewhere, LOL

And heck ya, nothing like smokin in the cold.

Wish we had the snow here.

I am pleasantly surprised how well it did in the cold, once she got to temp she ran at 225 to 250 no problem.
