First Build 81 Gal Patio Rig

Post by lostbuckaroo » January 14th, 2013, 12:11 am

Bought some materials this weekend to build the cart frame, casters, neumatic tires, and bullet hinges for the doors.
And cut the tank today..

Frank, I was thinking of just going with a square box.. out of 1/4" .. the end bell is 3/16 but would make a really cool fire box door.. Hmmm... :-bd .. Got that clamp at Northern tool for about $50...That thing is massive and worth the $$$ Learned a few things on building that frame if I build another I'll do differently.. Next I'm gonna cut the CC door and starting cleaning up the inside of that tank.. then start taking some measurements and making a materials list...Thanks all!

Wow, the stronghand is awesome looking.

But for the money I just couldnt justify it.

If you are building with tubing, it can turn out perfect if you tack them in the right places before you make the first full pass. Lay a nice bead in the wrong place and you will build a pretzel no matter if you are trying to or not. LOL

Made a little progress tonight cut of the tank mounting flanges, and got all but the tank relief valve off... That thing appears to be brass and has decided it didn't wanna come out... so ... I cut it off and punched all the innards out of it... B-) Wasn't sure what else to do.. Main goal today was to get the tank sitting on the cart so I can start laying out the CC door and find the best real estate on the tank for it.. As with the first time you do anything you learn what you would do differently the next time... I'm kinda thinkin the cart is too big... all that room underneath and it looks funky but...I'm sure I'll add a couple shelfs and once I put the firebox on it'll look better.

I think the cart looks fine, and will be just right once it all comes together.
