Starting a new build 250 gal Reverse Flow

Post by coma44 » January 28th, 2013, 11:55 am

I have been collecting parts and saving money to buy steel for over a year now. I am planning on having it ready to roll as soon as time allows.

Here is what it should look like before it gets mounted on the trailer.

cad view of smoker
THis weekend i cut up the three sheets of 1/4" plate for the firebox, baffle plates and warming oven.

Plate all cut up
And sunday I tacked the fire box and the oven up they are 28" x 28" x 24".

Boxes tacked up.
Will be cutting the end off the 250 gal propane tank this week and starting the hard part.

If it ain't BBQ it ain't food.

Cool. Now our warming box is that a smoke chamber too? How will it all work?

I am planning to make it so I can use the upper box as a regular warming box, extra smoker space or even as a oven if needed. the two boxes are hooked to the main chamber but separate from eachother. I am working out a set of baffle plates that will let me open the warming box to the smoker chamber and am planning to install a burner to make it able to be an actual oven with the baffle plates closed when needed for catering jobs.

I know it will take some fiddling to get running correctly, but i thinks it will pay off for what I do.

Yea the guys I race against do the same...."Oh you need these parts they work great".....or the ony way to go faster is to "buy this carb"......but hey it's human nature right!

Very true I have much experience with that happening while building these.....

Now THERE'S an idea! ... a smoker I can drive to work! :kewl:

opens a whole new rationale to use on the wife to justify a new build ... :D

Nice looking work there!

I see things on a print occasionally and think to myself; "Self! They obviously didn't mean that" .... then I change it.
When I get done the print and the project just look "related" ... more like shirt tale relations ... :D

Hey Prints just like speed limits are just a "suggestion" but since I know the guy who drew them I maybe able to fudge a little here and there..... :D

I have finally gotten to get over to the shop and been able to get more work in on the tank. Looks like most of the weekend will be lost this week we are due to get 24+ inches of snow tonight into tomorrow.

I got the end lopped off the tank I have a idea for the end.....but that will be much latter on ;)

Tank end cut off.
Next will be adding in the extention ring......
