Fully Insulated 500+ Gallon W/ Squared Off Doors on Trailer

Post by onesquin » June 11th, 2013, 10:20 am

I just sold my first smoker for $6000 so it is time to build a new smoker and make all the improvements I want now that I have used a smoker this size for almost a year.

This will have a fully insulated firebox, cooking chamber, and warming cabinet. The door opening will be at least 83" wide. Probably 86" wide. It's gonna be a beast, but I maxed out my first smoker several times for cooks so going a little bigger won't hurt. Plus all the yummy smoked sides I make take up a lot of real estate.

I want to have it done by Aug 1st so it will be a fairly quick build...

Still haven't finished my patio model so maybe it will get done in the process as well?

It is bitter sweet... I've cooked for a lot of people in one year on the old smoker... But now I know what I really want and can't wait to build it.

In with the new... Out with the old!!!\

You can kind of see the first smoker right above the tank.

It's in the shadows. Hard to see. I should have turned the lights on.

I just ran all my calculations and using the nested tanks for the FB yields a FB that is 44 inches long if I cut off the top 8.5 inches of the tank to keep the height of the FB reasonable. This seems really long. With this cooker having a fully insulated chamber and FB would it be possible to make the FB less than 100% on the calculator? Not much like 40 inches long instead of 44.

I finished the trailer on my first smoker and delivered it yesterday(and got the second half of the money). It looked pretty good, but I am ready to build the new one.

I got almost everything I need to get started. Chrome 16 in wheels. New tires. New axles. Lots of steel. 3 tanks. Bought a new portable band saw and borrowed a cold cut saw. Both Milwaukee. Gonna get started tomorrow.

No detailed plans. I did a design review with Frank. It's pretty much all in my head.
