Reverse flow center feed

Post by PetesMeat » October 20th, 2013, 5:32 pm

Hi Everyone,

I had another thread going about weather a square shaped cook chamber is a good idea or not, but I think this question im asking here is worth another topic.

Anyway, im wondering why centre feed type smokers are not that common. Seems to me to be an ideal format, keep the thing short and make use of the space underneath.

Is there some blinding disadvantage that im not seeing? What about heat distribution etc?

The only disadvantage that I can think of with my limited knowledge and experience, is the firebox is going to be lower down so you have to bend down to tend to it!

What am I missing, is the centre feed a flawed idea, or is it just under rated? Am i setting myself up for a fall building one?

Thanks for your help, this forum is fantastic.

Pete.

I think it is personal preference. To me the FB under the CC if it is not insulated good would give out heat to deal with when you are tending what you are smoking. Heat does rise.

You mean my knees getting burnt by the radiant heat. Not even considered that. Good point.....

Yep! Center feed reverse flow is the best! No drawbacks. Edgar is one.

I think the original end fed design, which goes back farther than anyone can remember, established that "LOOK" - just makes it look right if we keep that arrangement ….. There is no physical reason not to and a few good reasons to make them all center feed. But that's just the opinion of one raving lunatic…. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)
