Taking the plunge! Building an RF Smoker

Post by Peshek » January 4th, 2014, 8:30 pm

After being a member on this site for about a year and hanging out with Gizmo for much longer. I've decided to take the plunge and get started on a new RF Smoker. The firebox and cook chamber will be the same as "Egor" Gizmo's current project. Mine will be a patio model with an end feed firebox. I picked up the wheels today and will anticipate getting some steel ordered soon. Special thanks to Gizmo for the guidance on the project! I'll get some Pic's posted soon as construction is under way. It's going to be built in Gizmo's shop so you'll be seeing some familiar backdrops.

Welcome back Sven!

Normally one must go to a bowling alley to meet a man of your caliber

I have this overwhelming desire to say: "Hold my apple pie - I wanna try something!" :welder:

 :wtf: Ricks's help, tools, and shop. I foresee this one being a dandy. If it wasn't so damn cold, I'd go to Omaha and have Rick help me with one too!!

Night before last Pesh's phone ran down at the wrong time so I took a couple shots. I decided to post them to keep you a little more up to date on progress on Orvis.

Just put the drag handle/towel bar on the castered end - door's propped open since we're still curing silicone inside the CC on some fire rope….

Image

Added a hip shelf to the front with a piece of matching wood to the lower shelf (not shown yet) - perfect place for digital therms ….. also tongs, gloves and pie ….. just sayin'
The black pipe fitting/cap is one of 2 that allow routing the probe wire inside the CC - the cap is slotted - Ray's design - works great and easy to build.

Image

Just got the stack on before shutting off the light so it's starting to look like a cooker now!

Should have him done this weekend….. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D

I really like the looks of the tire/wheels and caster wheels. Good combination.

Thanks guys - don't forget Pesh - he had a hand in this build too….

He spared no expense on those wheels (I think Tractor Surprise had them on sale) - Even upgraded to the locking pneumatic casters …. ! I expect pressure sensors to show up any day now…. =))

I'm just glad they don't offer nitrogen-filled, 5-point MAGS with a speed rating …..

DANG! ... those would be cool though! :D
