150 Gallon Reverse Flow Smoker Build

Post by Destroyr350 » February 6th, 2014, 7:58 pm

Today I picked up all the material for my 150 Gallon smoker, well almost all of it. I decided to go with a 30" ID x 48" Cook Chamber. The insulated fire box will have an internal dimension of 22" x 22" x 24". Just took it all off my truck and will follow up with some pics throughout the build. I hope to have this done in the next month or so. The plan is to be at a BBQ competition in April so it looks like I have some work ahead of me.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Wow, I don't know what that is like picking up all the pieces already cut. That should speed things along, looks like it is going to be a nice one that is for sure. That thing Gizmo said about "posting pics helps speed the process", I can't relate I haven't touched my project since I posted pics. lol Life gets in the way sometimes, but get to work you have a schedule. :BDHorse: :BDHorse:

I decided on this project not to kid myself and just pay someone who has the means to cut everything for me. No shop sheer in my garage. Wasn't bad at all, think i paid about $200 to roll the cook chamber and cut everything for me. I planned well.

That should come together well. We're getting ready to fire our RFS up for the first time tomorrow morning. Looks like you have the skills to do a first class job.

TIG welds usually look nice, if I had a MIG I would have used it instead. TIG is slow and uses a crap load of argon. It's a shame but after the second pass I will be grinding them round and smooth.

Finished up the firebox for the most part.

Image

There is a 1" gap on the left, right, back and top for the insulation.

Image

This is how the firebox looks in the firebox shell.

Image

I welded up the cook chamber and just mocked up the smoker so I can take some measurements and decide whats next.

Image

I ran out of Argon so it looks like I have to wait until monday to do anything else..

That would be so cool to have it all cut to spec. Awesome.!! I'm guessing that you weld more then once every month or two. ??

Nice work brother. Gonna be cooking on it before you know it.

Anyone seen that Frank Guy around lately????

Before Friday I actually have not touched my welder since I built my pizza trailer like 6 months ago. Apparently it's like riding a bike.

Very nice job you are doing, I only wish my welds looked that nice. But than again I've never tried TIG but have seen people that can make MIG look that good.

Nice work, there must be some good judgment in getting all those parts cut for you $200.00 is not a bad price at all. No wonder Gizmo does it that way.

Gizmo and ST, Frank didn't come to see me, maybe just Mickey Mouse.
