500 gallon tank + 18 foot trailer = Flavortown

Post by GrillinFool » February 25th, 2014, 3:07 pm

I finally have everything I need to make a big honkin' trailered rig.

500 gallon propane tank - Check
18 foot trailer - Check
200 gallon propane tank for fire box - Check
Funds to have it done since I don't have the skill and the third member of GrillinFools.com who does, doesn't have the time - Check

I'm wanting to put the fire box below and to the back, not offset.

I was planning on doing a double walled fire box, topping the the firebox with warming cabinet and putting pipes on either end.

Anyone got a good set of plans for that? Also, what else should I take into consideration? I want multiple sets of grates inside that can slide out or be pulled out entirely in order to grill a whole pig. I also want to be able to put coals in the cooking chamber should I want to skip the firebox and cook at higher heats (brats and burgers for charity events, etc).

What about drain holes for the grease or a way to clean the thing out without having to get in.

Also, what about the rest of the trailer? We're thinking multiple prep stations, sink with water tank, storage, maybe even refrigeration, etc. Anything I need to look at there?

Sorry for throwing so much info at you. We're ready to roll here and I knew this was the place to go to make sure this thing is done right...

You may want to contact Frank Cox by a PM he helps folks out with plans. One of the good things about that is he can do the math to set it up so you get the proper draft and when your done building the massive cooker it will really work correctly. Or email him at smokerplans.net
As for the trailer, if you will be selling food from it, you will need to find out what the local laws require.

Obi-Wan is actually Frank Cox. That's just one of his nicknames.

I sort of figured that, but being new here, I wasn't sure.

Does someone have his email addy or can you nudge him to respond to my PM? We are looking to do this as soon as we get good plans.

Will do!

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Here's one more question. Refrigeration? Anyone put a fridge on a rig? Where do I get an industrial one that can handle being in the elements?

You are going to want a camper fridge that runs on propane or one of the fancier ones with an automatic switchover from electricity to propane for when you are traveling. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)
