Exhaust output height....

Post by PetesMeat » March 2nd, 2014, 4:06 pm

Hi Everyone,

Just thinking about my exhaust on my centre feed and i was wondering, are the outputs supposed to be right at the top? When i had my cheap nasty offset, I googled how to make it better and it said to lower the exhaust to the level of the grill, which I did. I dunno if thats just a workaround for those nasty smokers or weather thats how it is supposed to be...

Any advice?

Pete.

Most guys leave them flush. I'm drawing a blank on your build, but I don't think it's gonna make much difference on the cooker type.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Yes, leave it flush with the top

I leave mine flush at the top, I believe in allowing the smoke to move along. It seems to me that smoke gets old if it stays in there too long.

Mine are at grate level for I guess the main reasons already mentioned. I want to force my smoke to linger a bit rather than make a straight line exit. The path of the smoke also represents the path of the heat (in my mind's eye) so my thoughts are to get that smoke rolling and disperse the heat in the process. What would be cool is for someone with a top flush set up to run some therm readings with the current rig. Now put an extention (rolled up piece of light aluminum sheeting) down into the smoker to lowest grate level and re test those therm numbers. Might be there is no benefit either way.

If it can't be smoked .... try frying it. It that don't work, it's probably best just left alone
