My RF Trailer Pit Build

Post by CrazyD » March 4th, 2014, 8:39 pm

Been working on this one for about 3 months now. just weekends and afternoons after work. there was about 3 weeks i didn't work on it because of the holidays being busy and going out of town to see family.

anyways, its a 5x8 trailer built out of 2x3 11ga tubing. cooker is built from 3/8 24" pipe 62" long, firebox is 1/4" inside and out with 2" of mineral wool insulation. i also added my pitmaker SAFE to the trailer build as well. it'll have a single sink and dry storage box on it. i'm basically down to the dry storage box.

tomorrow will be the first burn in it to see how it reacts to the heat and how the heat flows. only thing left on the cooker portion is the gauges (on order from tel-tru) and and the topper on the stack.

on to the good stuff - the pictures haha.

first burn went great today! i only had about a 3-5 degree variance from end to end. it really seemed to like holding a temp of 250. from start to finish i never needed to adjust anything. nothing sprung on me metal wise during the burn. i had it going from 830am to about 6pm when i cleaned up shop for the day and only added one small split (4x8 or so) about every hr. never had a big fire or huge bed of coals.

it did really well and i'm impressed and very happy with it.

while all that was going on i got the storage box skinned and added to the trailer. i should have the lid for it done tomorrow. getting down to the nitty gritty now.
