Edgar is underway...

Post by Gizmo » September 7th, 2011, 4:05 pm

It always starts slower than I like but at least it's started.... The first is a pic of Edgar's basement checking it for square on the jig table. Since my artist just finished the new logo for Edgar I thought I would throw it in too for a laugh...ImageImage
Notice the family resemblance? It's kind of a mixed relationship since Edgar is a stick-burner and Edna's a pellet drive...

Not sure why my computer/photo bucket is cutting 20% off the right side though...

I agree, it always seems slow to get going.

Nice Logo. I like it.

Thanks guys - and rimax, that "organized shop" doesn't prevent me from putting a pair of pliers in my back pocket so I can spend an hour looking for them...LOL :)

Struggling with stack diameter. I have a 6" pc of aluminum irrigation pipe that would work but at only 16" (Frank's spec.) it isn't even head height on me. How about going with a 36" piece of 4" exhaust pipe 36" long? That would be the same cubicinches volume as the 6 X 16 and it would move the smoke up higher and out of my face... thoughts? :)

Finally got some time to work on Edgar again so I thought I better post some pics... Sorry about the order but I think you can figure them out...
2 pics showing the transfer tube for the blower...
ImageImage
Warming compartment...
Image
Fire basket - ash pan - top/diffuser plate
Image
Firebox door with draft...
Image
Internal parts before paint...
Image
On his back and ready to paint the bottom...
Image
Bottom and firebox interior painted - now he needs doors...
Image
Hope to have the "basement" done today so I can start on the second story. The cook chamber will have a bottom seal so they will stack/seal for use or come apart for transport to contests... at least that's the PLAN...

Edna's Kid, very nice work I like the design. :) Will the bottom of the diffuser have a bridge around it to keep the drippings from hitting the coals?

Since this rig has to be portable it's made in two halves and the main baffle plate is in the cook chamber up about 6 inches from the main seal. All of what you're looking at is under the main 1/4" baffle plate - I'll foil the top of it and it will catch the drippings...

Frank I answered your question on the minichat but for those reading this thread - the basement is right at 200 pounds complete. The cook chamber is at 104 pounds but still needs an outer skin and door so maybe 150 pounds done...? The baffle plate comes out (74 pounds) and the cast iron grates come out too (15 pounds?) Should be pretty "mover friendly" HA!
