thermometer mounting

Post by rockcrawler74 » July 16th, 2014, 9:13 pm

Building my first insulated reverse flow and have a quick questions. I have purchased a nice 3" tel-tru thermometer with a 6" stem that I plan on mounting in the insulated door. It seems like it sticks out away from the face of the door a long ways, what are you guys doing to protect them from getting damaged? What about mounting flush into the door? Open for any and all suggestions.

Thanks

Howdy Rockcrawler, pics of what you are working with is helpful. On my tanks smokers I use an eyebrow to protect it. My insulated cabinet has two gauges that stand about an inch off the door. If your outer shell is steel, you could take a piece of 3 1/2 in. Tube that shrouds your gauge. Tack weld it in place or rivet.... hope this helps

since you do not have cook chamber door made yet. mount the gauge into the inner wall , basically recess the gauge into the door. use a piece of 0.93 wall 3 1/2 tubing surround your gauge. put hole in outer door skin for gauge.

That was my plan but the instructions say the housing of the thermometer should not be exposed to temps above 200 degrees, will this over heat my thermometer?
