New build

Post by Baybum » October 24th, 2018, 5:21 pm

Well I went and did it. Jumped headfirst without checking the water temperature or depths. But no regrets yet. Just wanted to say thank you for all the posts I have read and all the information that you guys make available. Comments are wanted and welcomed. Thanks again for all the support.

Welcome! Looking good so far bro. Did you calculate your numbers/dimensions using the calculators? If so, you are in good shape. If not, better recheck em while you're still early into your build.

How is the balance on the rig with the wheel placement?

As far as balance I haven't mounted it to the cart yet. That was just a photo opportunity in get an idea. It has balanced really well on the rack I have fabrication

It's looking good! If you decide to have the wheels located the same as the picture then you'll need a heat shield just to be safe.

Moving forward. Got my hinges from Island Outdoor mounted, "plug for frank" lol. Also the chimney cut out done. And yes we use an alligator to bite the steel to give it that jagged look and more welding surface.ImageImage

Are you going to use a gasket to seal the door? Are you using a flange? Now is the time to put those on and adjust gaps before you weld on the hinges.

I suggest just cutting the door out completely, put on the flange and then set it back in on shims to set the hinge location. Way easier than half- cutting the door and guessing on gaps.

Putting flush flanges on the exterior. We're going to shim the interior ones to hold 1/8" gasket. Hoping for a cleaner finish. Thanks for looking out.

Well, long week at work didn't get as much done as I wanted. But tomorrow is Saturday and the kids want to help? Looking forward to it really. I did get the hinges on and the outer flanges on. Saturday goal......baffle plate, interior flanges, plasma cut firebox door vents.....and depending on the amount of Anheuser-Busch support maybe more. Not placing and bets..[emoji849]ImageImageImage

i cherish my family “help” but have to keep reminding myself that it’s supposed to be fun and that doesn’t necessarily mean productive. Enjoy the day!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but had an eye injury over the weekend and couldn't stand the arch or bright light for that matter. Plan on moving swiftly over the next few days. Have a competition the weekend of Thanksgiving and getting nervous.

The build is coming along great. I hope the eye injury was minor and you fully recovered. Looks like you have plenty of work to do before Thanksgiving, don't rush it too much I'd rather miss one competition then have a giant cooker that you are not happy with because you cut corners.
