Yikes.

For something that is pre-cut and supposed to just snap together in 8 hours as easy as legos, that is a pretty intimidating instruction book.

Sounds like a fun vacation...good luck.

DT, I think that you're confusing the new DP with Mack. I believe the Mack kit is just cut plate that has to be assembled and welded but I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. lol

I think you are confused also lol! Got a lot of welding time in my future lol! It's a super detailed set of prints, Frank and crew doesn't mess around with this stuff lol! It looks overwhelming but it's not bad once you study it a bit.

Thanks BigT...you are 100% correct. I was thinking that new GF in a box. Sorry all!

It does indeed appear a lot of cutting and welding will be done in the next 10 days. Just remember to take your time and don’t cut corners or you will regret it for a long time. No race to finish it....

Finally got to go pick up my Mack parts. Frank and crew are awesome! Super great group of guys! Trip home was a bit questionable since it was snowing like hell but the smoker parts made it safe and sound. Gonna get it unloaded and parts organized today and hopefully start welding either tonight or maybe Monday. Can't wait to get started. Pic is heading home on i44 during the snow lol!Image

I hate snow.

Bet it was nice to have the extra weight of all those parts!

Purposely loaded them on the front of the trailer to give some extra weight. Trailer got a little squirrelly in some patches of snow but nothing crazy.

Saw a lady in a Mercedes suv about take out my trailer. Went completely sideways towards it. Then proceeded to flip 180 degrees back and forth about 10 times. Was pretty amazing she was able to recover it really.

Look forward to your build, especially the many, many pics you are going to put up :D

Well didn't get as far as I wanted. Had a dentist appointment first thing, then put up a wheelchair ramp through our mens ministry for someone. Also found out yesterday my stupid truck thinks it needs new CV shafts, so that's cutting in to my smoker building time as well. Anyways finally got home and got a bit done before I had to go pick up the kids. A couple pieces were cut 1/4" long so spent a bit of time trimming them up. Looks like hell with my crappy grinder skills lol! Hopefully get a little further tommorow.Image

Also for some reason I was having a hell of a time welding the corners flat. Going vertical no issue. But flat was kicking my ass today. Think I need a few beers before starting next time...

Pretty descent start for just a couple hours work. Just remember it’s not a race.

Definitely taking my time. Read the prints about 100 times before and after each tack lol!

Time for my 10am union coffee break. Not a bad morning so far. Questions for the pros. Would you go ahead and weld it solid at this point or wait until the door frames are in?ImageImage

Once it’s square and you are happy, weld it.

Always easier to weld it before all sorts of brackets and such get in the way. I like to weld as I go so as not to forget sections.

That's what I was hoping. Trying to get all the nice flat easy welds before I flip it back down and then get the rest of the welds then. I don't wanna have to weld vertical or overhead if I don't have to lol!

Side note. My wire is .024. My auto set is only letting me go to 3/16 on the thickness. Still looks like good penetration. Should I go grab a bigger roll of wire?
