Almost done building my Mack. Question on the door latch... I bought the door latches from Frank. What is the small circle washer for?

I just guessing here, but it looks like the thru-door shaft fits into a sleeve to keep it offset from the door face. Once thru the door, the flat washer would go on next to keep the butterfly piece (which goes on top of it and is welded to the shaft) away from the inside of the door to allow easier rotation.
But I could be wrong.....lol.
