introducing the King Mini

Post by rlmax02 » April 8th, 2012, 8:46 pm

I think I mentioned in a previous thread that I was working on a project and would have some pics coming. Well Ive kept it secret long enough so Im introducing to you the one and only King Mini.

Since I have this holy shemamma sized rolling BBQ pit I figured it was time to build something a little smaller and managable which really I probably should have done as a first project. I had a bunch of smaller propane tanks laying around so here we go!

Image
Image
I cut the ends off of a couple of 30 gal tanks which is alot harder than it looks to make a straight cut.

Image
here they are together...see where we r going

Image
got the door marked off and sliced like butter.

Image
figured Id need a cart too

Image
Image
found some wheels laying behind the shed.

Image
cut a smaller tank for the firebox and did a test fit

Image
heres the opening to the main chamber.

Image
Image
of course i need some vents as well along with a door. believe it or not it took a long time to figure how I was gonna make that door.

Image
basically I just took the bottom of another tank and fabbed a latch and took an extra set of hinges left over from the king cooker which I had to cut bend and fill to fit.

Image
stole the stack off of my charbroiler store bought

Image
made some simple hinges and framed out the door.

Image
Image
added a handle in these pics.

Image
got the reverse flow plat welded up.

Image
Image
Image
got eric to cut out a couple of vent covers and slapped em on.

Image
stole the grates outta the chargriller as well. just cut to fit

Image
got the burn out going here. two days later I did the seasoning

Image
added the thermo and ready to cook.

Image
Image
added a handle for good measure to roll this baby around

Image
figured a storage grate would work too.

Image
started with a small butt.
Image
threw some salmon on when temps were finally falling.

Image
basically thats it in a nutshell. heres the king mini smoking and ready for clean up and paint.

honestly I had the notion that I would take this to the comp with me and throw a for sale sign on it to help offset some of the expense. but now after using it I dont think I can. I used just 10lbs of charcoal for the entire cook and it worked great. I dont know still might sell it. hope youall enjoyed the show!

Ya know smoker tom always wanted me to put a set of gauges and a regulator on the top of the warmer on my 160 build. I used a 100 Lb propane bottle for the warmer. I could still do that and paint the bottle silver LOL :exp:
