UDS build from a pressure tank

Post by headhunter 1 » July 19th, 2020, 11:33 am

Started building a UDS type smoker last week from a pressure tank I had laying around..

This is what I started with.
20200713_145354.jpg
1st thing I did was cut the top off ,so I could flip it and work on the bottom part..

I wanted to get a wider stance so I made some new feet from some 2x4 channel and mounted some casters on them..( not sure how much rolling around I'll be doing with it but I had them laying around.)

Cut the old feet and studs off and welded a pc. Of plate to cover the hole,..
And welded a 1in.T to it, to use it to drain grease if I have too..

Thanks for sharing. I saw one of these tanks on Craigslist recently and thought about doing the same thing. Can’t wait for the Q-View!

The tank had a spot where it rusted, so I patched that up

Made a hinge and handle for the lid, and added some handles on the side of tank..

Very cool build. What are the dimensions of that tank? The grease drain is a very good idea. It will save so much clean up time.

Pretty much done with everything, and getting ready for paint..
Ran out of flat bar so I made a temporary basket out of some old smoker grates, the basket is probably a little too big , but it'll do..

Very nice. That should give you years of tasty food! What did you use, if anything, for a baffle above the fire box?

Nice job!

A buddy of mine made one out of the same size tank. Good thing you put a hinge on it, trying to lift the whole lid off was not for children.
