Cooking Grate Height

What grate height (measured from the top down)are most of you using for the standard 55 gal drums? Are most of you using a ash pan?

For me its as high as you can get it and still put any piece of meat on it with out hitting the lid.

Mine are real close to 7 inchs I believe. HeHeHe @ Frank,,,,,,,I have a dome lid so I don't have to worry about the meat hitting the lid.

I took a tape measure into the local grocery store and measured roasts one day (boy did I get some looks!) couldn't find anything that 9 inches clearance above the grate couldn't handle. Of course, a full turkey might be another matter - the 12-pound turkey (favorite size for me) in my freezer measures 7.25 inches tall on it's back - for what that's worth... :)
