first smoker all done!

Post by mechead11 » October 18th, 2014, 6:08 pm

so, I Joined the forums a while ago. I introduced myself and had plans for a UDS. I made it, I forgot to post up some pictures. Then I moved to a neighborhood that did not allow charcoal grills/smokers. bummer. Now my UDS lives at my parents house. One day it will come home to a neighborhood that appreciates it. but, here are some photos! ImageImage

Then I built an electric one. Photos to come soon. I'm about to take the first run of ribs out.

Geez, so you have done really nice work and NOW..you can't use it? My brother lives in a place similar to that. No trailers in the driveways, all front doors have the same color, and he gets to pay some crazy home owners association fee each month for that privilege.

You parents will surely enjoy it

Make no mistake, there ain't no powder in this Puff ! And... I'm not really a crazy person but I play one in real life

I think so, too. soon.just n time for fall/winter 2015. Hopefully somewhere I own and have a nice 2 car garage. a space for the old lady and a space for toys and tools. OH and an actual backyard. Unfortunately the barrel smoker is serving its purpose as a badass yard art at my parents house... :-l #-o

If possible could you post pictures or describe the transition from the fire box to the cooking area?

Just thinking out loud.... Do you have tuning plates in the bottom to absorb some of the direct heat?

Thanks!

I will snap a photo next time I go visit my parents. The initial run had a big problem with the direct heat from the middle and no heat on the sides. There are basically a bunch of holes about a half inch diameter that connect the two drums. I fabricated a 1/8" thick plate that covers the holes and heats up pretty good. It covers the whole bottom and forces the smoke and most of the heat to a 2" slot on the side opposite of the exhaust. This makes the heat and smoke have to travel over everything before it can get out. the picture will explain it. I'll try and get over there soon.
