Rub

Post by mp4 » June 26th, 2018, 7:06 pm

I'm all out of Dinks rub and I need to do some cooking this weekend...anyone have any suggestions? I have a PM sent to smokendink but haven't had a reply from him yet.

I like his stuff so I never ventured out to try much else and I don't have a ton of time to do any trial runs before my daughters grad party this weekend.

I like the Jack Daniels the best. It comes in beef and pork also. I use this when I don’t have time to make my own rub.

I have some of the smoking rub, and it's pretty good. One thing I learned, though, is that if I put it on heavy like I did other brands, it got a little too salty.

Most rubs have a high salt content. I typically mix my own rubs and never mix in salt. I’d rather put the salt on separate as different cuts require different amounts.

I've noticed most of them are heavy on the salt and I don't care too much for that at all. I would love to find a recipe that wasn't 90% salt so I could layer it on a little more.

That’s why I said IF I don’t have time to make my own. When I mix my ribs I can measure and monitor how much salt it has.
I make a rub that has a low salt content but , the salt that’s in most rubs actually help the meat become tender.
I do like making rubs in various flavors.
I suppose next time I make a batch I’ll write the recipe down.
I also make my own sauces too.
I rarely use a store bought sauce.

I use a rub called Back Yard Southern Style. It says not salty and not hot on the packaging and it isn't either of those, you can put it on heavy if you want to. My wife doesn't like hot stuff so I use it for her and the others that don't eat hot rubs. I don't have any particular rub that I use even though I've tried just about everything on the market. I used to make my rubs but I never came up with the WOW factor that I was wanting so I went back to commercial made rubs. I haven't used Dink's rubs but I have heard great things about them.

I discovered a new rub at the g store today called Head Country seasoning and rub. I’ve used their bbq sauce and it’s damn good.
I’m making some steaks tonight on the grill and plan to try it out
