A good premade rub

Post by painer » November 28th, 2012, 9:51 pm

I have found that Byron's Butt Rub is a pretty good premade readily available rub for most of my BBQ. Although I add in a couple extras, even if I don't have time for that it serves me well. Personally I like to add some brown sugar, mustard, cumin, allspice and celery seed for a bit of extra flavor, but really just adding some brown sugar to it is solid.

I recommend anyone looking for a good base to start their own custom rubs could try it - it has all the basics of a barbecue rub.

Dink, let us know when things settle down for ya. I'd like to get some rub from ya. I've heard and read nothing but good things about it.

Glad to hear everyone liked it SOILhunter but I'm sure your cooking had as much to do with it as my rub.
SmokingFF you can go to the web site anytime and make an order I'm still able to do that, just haven't had much time to chat, took a position at Eastern Illinois University and they have been keeping their thumb on me. lots of paperwork and extra stuff to do all the time.

Rick, do you ever make it to the Tri City Storm hockey games? I was in Kearney 2 yrs ago with my son's AAA U-18 team for a hockey tourney. Kinda ironic, his team was the Tri-Cities Jr. Americans out of Kennewick, WA. Enjoyed the 3 days visiting your neck of the woods. (sorry, thread creep)

I just checked out the web page. I couldn't find a description of the rub, what kind of flavor profile would you describe it as?

sorry been at work all day, don't get much time on here anymore. flavor profile on the chicks and butt rub I would say is sweet with a slight heat finish, hope you enjoy it.

Got the rubs, trying them out this weekend. It's been in the teens up here all week, looking forward to some 30 degree weather to smoke in.

I used it on a pork butt yesterday and it was great! Dink's description is right on. I really liked the color after smoking, it was a deep mahogany. I'm in search of a good injection for this rub Dink, got any suggestions? Thanks!

Here's one that I use Doug, it keeps the meat moist and flavorful.

2 cup apple juice
1 cup Dr. Pepper
1/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/8 cup molasses
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbs Dink's Chicks and Butt rub

mix all ingredients and allow to set until rub dissolves then inject into pork shoulder or ham.
hope you like this, works for me.

you can also heat your apple juice and rub together in the microwave to help it dissolve faster, just let it cool back down before injecting.
