Thermometer Question

Post by dbear » May 8th, 2016, 9:13 pm

hey there, bought to purchase some thermometers for my pit, and I see a lot of you like the Tel Tru's, and I have looked at their website, and there are quite a few options. Any advise on the size, degree range, etc. ??? Thanks in advance.

I recently researched thermometers and found that the River Country with calibration screw are favored by many so that's the direction I went.

I thought they all had calibration screws?

I like the 3" dial. Stems I prefer the 2 1/2" but that depends on your mounting spot. On my vertical, a 4" stem will hit a pan on the shelf.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

I just got a few from tel tru. I ended up with a 3 inch dial and I think the range went 50-500 or so. Went with 2.5 inch stem for the smoker and 4 inch for the warmer chamber. Opted for the black dial....gonna look good on a black smoker and not stick out a much as a white face dial.

These mount on a 7/8 inch hole and have a pretty stout probe.

No adjustment but I figure they are reference anyway as I got some probes for actual grate temps. Also, not cheap but they are made in the USA so that is a plus for me. As a side note, I paid a few dollars more than a cheaper website, but I bought directly from tel tru. The cheaper site just looked a bit odd so I figured a few dollars to avoid a counterfeit was worth it.
