I haven't but I'm interested to hear how well it works. I think RC uses a maverick. I need to look into them more. One for pit temp accuracy and meat probes for large meat cooks. Although a thermapen works pretty sweet.
I have a couple of DOTs made by Thermoworks and am very pleased with them. I saw the Smoke on their website and read several good reviews on it, including this one from AmazingRibs.com: http://amazingribs.com/bbq_equipment_re ... orks-smoke .
I'm leaning toward getting myself one for Christmas.
A few thoughts on using the Smoke so far... and I make these using the Maverick 732 and 733 as a point of reference.
The amount of information this thing feeds you and the rate at which is conveys it are astounding. You can literally sit there staring at the base unit and watch temps rise and fall, sometimes by as little as a tenth of a degree.
You may have already seen reviews where people comment on how much faster the receiver (and the base unit for that matter) updates when compared to the Maverick models and I would echo those statements. The unintended consequence is that the probes are so sensitive and the sending cadence is so much faster, it might cause you to run to the pit thinking you over stoked it just to find out a considerably higher temperature than expected lasted only for a few moments. On the Maverick, you most likely never saw these superficial high readings because it does not update on the base unit or the receiver fast enough to see them, and if you do, you likely assumed you over stoked and that rushing in and knocking the fire down was responsible for a much lower next read that might have been somewhat lower without your intervention.
The build quality is what you have come to expect from ThermoWorks. The receiver feels like it weighs nearly double what the Maverick 733 receiver weighs and it feels very solid.
Can't argue with the result I am getting. Yesterday's turkey was life changing. One of our guests said it was the best meat of any kind that he had ever had.
I have the Thermoworks smoke, worth every penny! I had a maverick 732, but my yard is too damn big and always disconnected on overnight cooks. No problems with Thermoworks Smoke, and the probes are top notch. You will not regret getting it.
