Ya for sure, the little things take the longest. I got more done Saturday but didn't finish. All I need to do is a few finishing touches and the cc door handle. I really like the way the exterior looks right now and would like to keep that look. What do y'all recommend putting on the outside to season/seal it? I've heard boiled linseed oil that was on truly raw metal. Id like to leave the paint and everything the way it is.

We had a build that was left natural patina and sealed with a high temp clear coat. I believe it was a rustoleum product so I would check out their website.

Here are a few more update pics. I sealed the outside with boiled linseed oil and it turned out great, it was a little tacky at first but after being heated up it's nice and dry. The oil darkened up the steel and gave it a nice sheen. Sealed up the door with lavalock gasket and got the handle built. All I need to do is mount the gauge. I bought a tel-tru 3" face with a 4" stem. Is between the fire and meat the best place to mount it, or right in the middle?

That looks freaking awesome! I really like that finish. Are the legs and rack underneath also coated with linseed? Curious about the firebox too. I season to mine on my first build with Crisco and it just burns off every time. Will the linseed stand up to higher temps better?

Dacolson, thank you I'm really happy with the look. As for how it'll hold up, I'll be able to give you a better answer after I use it more but It seems like it will. I wiped it down while it was hot and had a fire going. I heated everything else up more with a propane torch. Here's a link you can watch. https://youtu.be/LFp9j28mxKc
I obviously didn't get all the rust off mine like in the video, because I like the look, but it seemed to go on just fine.

For a single gauge, I like to mount in the center of the door about an inch above the rack.

Looking good, and single gauge mounted in center gets my vote as well.

I really like the way the rolled flat bar on the door is a shade or two darker than the smoker and door.
Also interesting video. Who would've known that "Boiled linseed oil" heated to 450 deg, could look that good on bare metal..
And keep it looking that way....... hopefully (tbd?)
Top notch workmanship :-c
Thanks for the share!!

Well I've cooked on it a few more times and starting to get it figured out. The oil seems to be holding up well and it’s not rusting any more than it was. The sheen has went away a little, it’s more of a matte finish now. I finally got the temp gauge mounted too, here’s a picture of the finished product and my first pork butt. I appreciate all of yalls help.

Love it. Butt looks spot on. Enjoy and thanks for sharing man. Really having a hard time deciding on oil like you or clear high temp finish. This helps.
