Almost done!

Only the thermometers and a grease drain.

Now it’s off to the sandblaster and then for some oil.

Why sandblast if you are going to oil?

To get rust off?
Not a good idea?
Some plates also have some printed numbers on them.
Thought samdblasting would give it an even look.

Depends on what look you want. One of the advantages of oil is you need absolutely no prep work. Personally, if I were going to media blast mine, it would get a coat of paint. Just doesn't seem worth the cost/effort to just have it turn rusty again in 6-9 months when the oil wears off.

You are not wrong either way.....

Thanks for thinking with me.
So the rust will come off with oil treatment?
Then sandblasting would be a waste of money.

I plan on treating it with oil every few months.
Spray some lineseed oil on it after a cook maybe.

The rust won’t come off but will turn the patina from the oil darker. The oil will keep the rust from getting worse if you keep applying it regularly.

Temp is very solid and consistent on bottom grill.
Due to the baffle the top right corner is eay hotter then the rest. That’s okay.

Began to season with linsead oil.

Be extra careful with any rags you use for linseed oil. That stuff will spontaneously combust. I folded one over and laid it on the smoker, came back an hour later and it was all burnt up. And the smoker wasn't hot, either.

Now with wood.

I oiled her down yesterday and started seasoning with blowtorch and let the fire heat up.

The grill I did woth blow torch and the SB was done by the fire inside.
Nice looking green, kind a like that color.
Will it stay like that or get darker after more use?

P.s. rolling 400kg onto the grass for some pics is not a good idea……[emoji23]

Agreed!
On the color, it will get more and more brown as the oil continues to polymerize. Parts that get little/no heat will stay light longer.

How does your counterweight work to balance the door? It just doesn't seem to have enough mass to it to make much of a difference.

The weight makes it possible to open with one hand, without I couldn’t properly do that.
It’s a solid steel bar. Can always add more if I grow old and weak :-)
