I like the stainless tanks in the last photo. What kinds of smokers are those... hahaah!
We've thought about adding a firebox to one of them many times!! =))

Nice job, Brewy!
Thanks Hoga!! This is a real lightweight compared to your builds. Whatcha working on these days?

Awesome build! The oversized firebox must really help with temp control in such a small pit. I built one as well, but I used an appropriately sized FB according to the calculator. Temp control is difficult because of the small volume of my FB. I’m going to rebuild the FB and oversize it. (though not quite to your level)

They came out prefect, the trick is a pizza pan that was shaped to direct the heat up to the top of the chamber and reduce flow. Unfortunately it also made fire management a pain. Hence why I am now building a 120 gal.

Paintjob is all wrapped up and the thing works amazingly well, particularly WITHOUT the Franklin baffle in place! I mean it works great with it in place as well, but definitely better without it, I chalk this up to the tiny 14" diameter and the throat cut out of the top of the firebox allowing the heat and smoke to go straight up into the bell, really good convection. In this 5 hr sparerib cook I didn't move anything around, and even the front edge of the ribs closest to firebox/throat didn't overcook or get crispy, so there's even more usable space. Getting pretty close to the throat about where the foil pack is you can see the dry hotspot on the grate, but it doesn't seem to ingress much past that actual hotspot. Giant firebox really works superbly on this thing too, it's efficient and stable, moreso than most offsets we've built, modified or even used for that matter. Little sucker works just awesome. Cheers y'all!

That's great! I'm glad it all worked out for you. I too am going without a baffle. I think it's the way to go.

Thanks man! I'm all but certain this works best on the little sucka because of the tiny diameter, larger diameter will create a sort of dead spot beyond the hotspot, where the heat hasn't come back down yet so-to-speak.

Probably not the best idea to go baffle-less paired with the Workhorse-style throat, although it'll work either way. It's easy as anything to add one later on though, good luck with the old girl! You must be almost done the build?

Actually it does. REALLY REALLY WELL. I'll get a video up soon showing it. I ran a biscuit test last weekend and 100% of the grate cooked PERFECTLY even. No hot spots at all.

Can't wait to see your design ThinBlue so I can try it on mine, as long as you don't mind?
I need to change mine, it has VERY uneven temps accross the grate!

Absolutely. Sharing is caring. I've learned a ton from Brewmaster and a number of other guys here. Wouldn't be right to withhold.

Hey Brew how dark do you think the linseed oil paint is going to get? Was it a chore to apply?

Moi? The Linseed oil "paint" doesn't really discolor in the way that regular linseed oil does, (because it's so heavily pigmented with metal oxides I assume) the hottest areas of the firebox lightened in color slightly so far, I don't expect that to change a lot because I had some big roaring hot fires going in the lil' sucka.

Thanks man!

The firebox is installed ~ 1.25" below dead center/food grate level. It's about 7 1/4" to center so the height of the cutout from bottom of the chamber is about 6". The firebox is also inset horizontally to within 1/4" or so of the bell-end weld seam, inside when we cut out the throat we left a 2" vertical dam.

Welcome. I can say it works some good the way it is! Like really good, and with or without the baffle it works awesome both ways. preference is probably without the baffle in place. Food close to within a couple inches or so of the throat doesn't burn, and only cooks marginally slower than the food placed closer to the stack, so it's fairly even end to end.
