Firebox to Tire

Post by Fattdaddy » August 23rd, 2022, 6:46 pm

Good Evening,

I am building a tandem axle trailer and was wondering how far away from an uninsulated firebox the tires needed to be? I am wanting to get the rear axle back as far as I can but also keeping the tire a safe distance from the heat of the firebox.

Thanks,
Fattdaddy

Tires can take a fair amount of heat and do so every time they are on the road so it's really not as big of a problem with a firebox as many think. I would look for about 6 inches of airspace between them. Once you use it a few times, measure your tire temp with a laser thermometer and make sure it's not much hotter than 175 degrees F. If it is, you can always add in a quick heat shield.

Thanks, I just wasn't sure so I thought I would ask.
