Your right Gizmo, if I use them "all" it only acts as an warmer. But if I want to control the temp separate of the horizontal CC I use 2 of them then slide another open or closing some more of the space depending on what I want it to do.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Is that a gigantic counter-weight arm or is that channel iron propped against the wall?

It's left over purlin from having the shop built. I've decided not to use counterweights, heavy doors discourage peeking.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Here's a few more pictures. I was able to get the decking down and the wood box finished. Also swapped out the 4 leaf spring on the pit side for a 5 leaf to help level things out a bit.
I left the open space under the upright for access to the drain valve. I just need to fabricate a door to clean up the look.
I'm just dying to pull this thing out of the shop and have a test burn to see how she acts. Maybe Sunday...

Here's the first fire. The rain rolled in so I shut her down after 3 hrs but, with only minimal adjustments to the tuning plates I only had a 25 degree temp difference between the vertical and the main chamber.
