Thanks Cole. It was a struggle to get the two sides bent the same curve. Turned out good though.

I sure hope you're charging the buyer for a custom build! Looks great!

Thanks BigT. It’s only custom because I can’t build anything the same way twice, lol 😂

Very nice looking pit you got going. The tank supports are definitely visible in the pictures, so I think it was worth doing them.

Thanks Dargo. Yes, I’m glad I did them this way. I don’t think I will repeat it. Even though I made jigs and templates to cut these all as accurately as possible, there were just too many gaps or high spots once the tank went on. I’m pretty sure the tank itself was pretty uneven. Also, making sure that all 35 legs were square on the trailer took too much time. Glad it turned out, but even more glad I’m done with them!

Definitely looked like a lot of work. Maybe next time, who are you kidding you know you will try it again, you only need 2 rows maybe 3 max?

Ya. For sure. I put a row over each strut. I’d do 3 rows max. It cuts down on storage space beneath the tank as well.

Moved on to framing up the sides of the trailer for wood storing and on to rack and prep shelf work. Took some time this round to build a jig for the slide on the folding prep shelf. Also worked on a repeatable process for bending the edges of the expanded steel over so it would tuck inside the steel frames on the shelving. First one took a while but the next ones ably took a little longer than normal. I really like how tidy they look.

Oh, and I got my logo plates cut ... love them. Added the 3 stars for TN and the lone star for TX for my customer. Got them cut in town here by Wolfgang Sixl at 6ldesign.com. This guy’s shop is sweet. Makes me feel like a slob.

I do like the way the shelf looks that way. Your folding/sliding tray looks really cool.

Nice work! It looks like you're getting close to finishing this one.

Thanks Dargo/Big T. Very close. Ran out of square tube for the rest of the racks. And I’m trying to decide if I should enclose the trailer sides with expanded steel like my last one or with 10 gauge sheet. I’ve got 3 pieces of 2’ x 5’ that would cover the two open sides where I have the framing built.
Besides that I need to finish the log rack and ash pan for the FB, add the thermometers, put in a couple probe ports and season it. Could be done w everything by next weekend. Fingers crossed.

Tucking in the expanded metal on the shelf and rack looks great! Gives it a nice clean look!!!

Thx Cole. That was the goal. I found that drawing out the bend lines on the side of the metal you are bending towards, then scoring it with a grinding wheel - not a cutoff wheel - made a big difference. Then making the bends with a crescent wrench. The cutoff when made too narrow of a cut and made it too easy to break the pieces off. The wide mark from the grinding wheel was just enough. And bending toward the cut hid the cut marks. Figuring out the measurements including the bends took some trial and error. Should be simple for the next ones.

Did a little trailer work today. Built the side walls and added my logo plate.

This logo design looks really cool. Just looked at it for a minute or two trying to see all the supports that hold the metal pieces in there.

Thanks Dargo. Here’s a closeup of part of the cutout.

Got most of the big remaining steps finished today - stack damper, ash pan and log rack. Leaves the temp probe ports and thermometers. Then exterior finish.

I put the log rack about 6” above the bottom of the fire box floor to keep air flow under the coals. Too high? Here’s a straight-on view:

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. You'll probably never put that much ash in there during a cook but it doesn't hurt to have some extra room. :LG:

Thx BigT. Not so worried about the ash as I am trying to keep the coals above the air intakes. Maybe a bit over the top. I’ll do a test run this week and see how it burns.

That looks horrible. You will need to toss some paint on that rig and send it to me so you don't ever have to deal with it again....:)
