Ugly Duckling #2

So, right now I have a probe in the middle of the grate and one about 4 inches directly above that one. And one more back towards the stack on the grate. The higher one is about 20 degrees cooler than the one on the grate, and the one at the stack is 15 degrees cooler than the middle probe.
So I'm thinking I need to make the flap where it will angle down more, block some heat at the bottom and let more go to the top. But overall, it's doing pretty good for a first run.

The firebox vent is working good, and right now I have everything wide open, vent and stack.

and now I have 9 degrees difference vertical, and 27 from middle to stack. I'll close the stack a little and see what that does.

edit: That didn't work, open back up.

I just put one tuning plate next to the flap and got 7 degrees difference across the grate.

and made the upper probe go to 25 degrees hotter than the grate.

This is looking pretty good, I like it.

The whole thing was 7 degrees, end to end. It's a pretty small cooker, though. This is what I ended up with. I believe I could have closed the flap some and evened out the vertical temps, I forgot. The tuning plate will need to be longer, to sit even with the flap, when I tilt it. I just grabbed that out of the scrap box, closest thing I had to fitting.

Ahhh gotcha! Sounds like it's working pretty awesome. So this is only leaving ~ 1" gap for heat going straight up looks like?
