New build from Gambrills,MD.

Post by ricks69l78 » July 5th, 2012, 8:45 pm

Just cut out the side door for firebox and welded the flange around door still have some more welding and grinding I need more discs.
I'm use to welding thin gauge sheet metal on cars not this thick stuff and cutting/grinding uses discs rather quickly ,firebox is 20" diameter x 24" long x 1/4" thick.
The cook chamber is 4' long x 24" diameter x 1/4" thick.

Looks like a good start Rick - Those grinding wheels get chewed up quickly on the thick stuff.

Nice Job. One thing Gus and I learned doing our smokers is to take your time and go super slow with the cutting wheels. Don't force it or overheat it. You'd be surprised how much longer the wheels last by going at it slowly.

I need help with the measurement of opening between 20" diameter firebox and 24" diameter cook chamber what should it be height and width which I guess would look like a big football shape but don't know the measurement.
