Diesel tank for firebox????

Post by TexasN1880 » March 16th, 2017, 9:44 am

I have a 2x2x4 diesel tank I want to use for a firebox. I'll have to cut it down to size.

My question is has anyone ever cut into a diesel tank before?
Would this be ok for me to use?
Would it effect the taste of the meat?

I would say it would work as long as you gave it a good wash out with dawn and burn it out real well. It really isn't any different than using a fuel oil tank or propane.

How thick is it tho? I would imagine it might be something like 11ga or 3/16" max?

I've welded on them Filled with water or Co2. I'm always a little nervous about them. My Dad Blew up a truck and lived to tell about it. He was told to weld mounting ears on the "new water truck", No one mentioned it was and old diesel tank!! he woke up next to a building. Only lost some hearing in one ear.
