Installing thermometer

Post by Chriz » May 15th, 2021, 10:39 am

I’d like some ideas and experience on installing the thermometer.

I have tell tru’s (from frankelin :-) ..).
I can put them in where the rod is parallel to the grate or I can install them perpendicular to the door.

Any thoughts?

I have 4 of them[emoji56]

2 for bodem grate and 2 for top.

Thermometers are just eye-candy and really not good for cooking, in my opinion. I like to put mine in so the probe is sitting at rack heights as this makes the temp a little more relevant....tho no more accurate.

Another thing I do on my RF is put one at far left and one at far right. The temp is irrelevant but it will indicate a hotter and colder side so you can tell of your pit is heating up or cooling down. Don't think this will work well on a standard offset as the firebox side is always going to be hotter.

I agree with Dirtytires. They are not truly effective for cook temp but are a good indicator. I do like the look though!
I like your idea of one at bottom and top rack level. The temps won’t be accurate to the center cook temps but you’ll get directional temps left to right and top to bottom.

Thermometers are like VU meters on an amp.
