Cant figure out the calculator

Post by kcoleman0306 » July 14th, 2016, 3:29 pm

I'm trying to figure out how big to make the throat opening and fire box for my tank but Ill be damned if I can figure out the calculator. Can any one help. Tank Dimensions are 27X44X60. Evidently I'm not that bright? Math always did elude me. I would just buy the plans but my wife is on me about making this as cheap as I possibly can.

Thanks for all the help.

Kyle

You've got a 275 G tank. Your FB needs to be ~105%, so maybe 30 x 28 x 26? That puts your throat at 175 sq in. Using my throat calcs, choose your shape, either half-moon or trapezoid. Going with a half-moon for instance, input 27 as your tank diameter, 175 throat area, and 27 wide for FB. That'll give you a cut out of ~9 1/2" high following the shape of the bottom of the tank. Your FB needs the same cut-out. Your BP will be above that opening and go across the tank leaving the same 175 sq in on the opposite side.

If you post a sketch of what your planning it would help.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

Just my 2 cents, but if you are trying to make this as inexpensive as possible, I would definitely recommend you reconsider purchasing plans.

They are pretty reasonable considering the project. I bought them and saved countless hours of my time. I also did not waste money on unneeded material and was able to make an accurate purchase list thus saving gas money on multiple trips to the steel yard. Not to mention all the mistakes I did NOT make (due to the plans guiding me) and the wasted material to redo.

The plans will save you time and money at least twice over what you paid for them....I understand saving costs but this is like going on vacation without google maps on your phone.
