New to me machine

Post by Big T » March 28th, 2023, 11:21 pm

I figured I’d make one last post before the old forum is gone. I picked up a “new” welder today for a great price. It’s an older machine but it hasn’t had a whole roll of wire ran through it. It also came with a spool gun and 2 bottles of different gases. The guy bought it a few years ago to build a metal staircase and then he lost interest.I’ve been looking at new machines for a while now but the cost is unbelievable unless you buy one of the smaller machines so I started searching for a good used one. I ran across this one on CL and I figured it was a scam since the price was so low compared to everything else I found but it was legit. He had all of the paperwork from when he bought it. It’s a Miller 212 auto set, I picked it up with a helmet and a few other things for $2500.

I got the spool gun free from miller when I purchased a new Millermatic several years back and threw it on a shelf for a few years because I was tig welding all of the aluminum projects that came along, which was not much.
I finally put it together and that thing actually worked fantastic compared to he older Cobramatic that we used at work.
I guess that's why it sat in the box for a few years. I was expecting similar results.
I love my spool gun now and prefer it over tig for aluminum, especially when doing a lot of welding and on aluminum material over 14 gauge.
Nice find big T
Also, I am not too keen on the new site either. I seems like it would be difficult to find and follow a build.
so I have kinda moved on to other forums fabrication and cnc stuff, but i do check in there once in a while to drop a line.

The spool gun certainly comes in handy from time to time. I'm in the same boat on the other site, I can't figure out how to keep up with what's going on. It's similar to the other social media apps where everything is all grouped together. Good luck on all of your endeavors, I'll also check back in over here as long as possible!

Not to change the subject, but this is GREAT that you can still post on this site!!
I thought Frank said that we could no longer post after March, this is awesome!
Sorry for getting off track. Love your new welder Big T!

Great find on the welder T! I'm rarely that lucky lol.

I'm with you guys on the new platform. I guess it doesn't completely suck, but it's definitely not as easy to find and follow actual build threads - at least not to an old geezer like me who is so clueless about social media.

I sure miss the old days when this forum was in it's "heyday".
