Didnt know where to put this... LOL

Post by slowboat76 » February 4th, 2018, 1:01 pm

Hey guys I am getting ready to build a stainless dual sack crawdad cooker and not sure about the burners for it. I am looking for about 350-400,000 BTUs of capacity. Can somebody point me in the direction of just the burner or nozzles to do this? The only ones I can find is the ones with multiple tips into a shared plate but I am worried what the wind would do to this open design. I like the ones that have the pipe that has the flame coming from it but the only ones I can find have the stands built into it. I can cut it apart but just didn't want to do that if I could avoid it. Any help is appreciated.

These 44 Jet Propane Jet Burners are for those guys looking for a burner that boils super hot and can even be used for roofin’ tar or asphalt. The 44 Jet Propane Jet Burner can get to those super hot temperatures even with a low pressure regulator. The 44 Jet Propane Jet Burner produces approximately 10,000 BTUs per jet with a 10 PSI regulator. So you can still achieve THE MINIMUM of 100,000 BTUs with this 44 Jet Propane Jet Burner.

You may have to install a couple.

You could PM Pete Mazz, he's pretty good with propane burners and BTU's and a lot of other things.

It'd help if you could sketch up what you're planning to make. That's a lot of Btu if it's a big pot cooker.

I tried to get it up right but I guess I am not that smart. lol
Anyway that is the jist of it as it stands now, I may switch to 1/4" Aluminium on sides and 3/8" aluminium on bottom angled piece to help distribute the heat and last longer, not sure yet. If I do stainless it will be 1/8" on sides and 1/4" on bottom. The tank will hold 120 gallons but will only use 60-70 gallons of water on a boil so as not to roll it over the top once the crawdads go in. I want to get water boiling in around 20-25 minutes and recover fairly quick when the crawdads go in. Any input and suggestions are welcome

Looks like about 100 gal. That's about 800 lbs. Each deg temp rise would need about 800btu per hour. To raise water temp to boiling, say 140 deg, would take 110,000 btu per hour. Times 3 for a 20 minute boil = 330,000 btu burner total.

Thanks Pete for the calculations. I was close but that helps to narrow it down to what i need. What do you think about the metal thickness on the bottom of the pot being 1/4" thick stainless? Is that over kill and will 3/16" suffice? Also on the remaining cabinet how thick stainless should that be? will an 1/8" be good enough? it wont get the level of heat the bottom plates will. Any help on design or whatever would be greatly appreciated

Since you're heating water I'd think 3/16 would be fine. I'd worry 1/8 would bow out across 48".

Forgot you're only using 50 or 60 gal water. You can ~halve the btu requirements

But I wouldn't...a windy day will pull 50% of your heat away.
