Pit Calc question.

According to the Pit Calc. A cook chamber that is 36 x24 should have a 4” stack that’s 32- 11/16 tall. I installed mine today. My question is should the stack be that tall no matter where it sits on the chamber or are we supposed to take the 24” of the cook chamber as part of the overall height.

The stack itself should be 32 11/16 tall. I like to mount it as high as possible on the top or end of the CC.

Thank you Big T. I cut it to that length cut a hole in the top of the cook chamber in the center and installed it there so the full length is sticking above the CC. It just looked a little tall but I trust the Pit Calc.

I trust the calculator. If you want a shorter stack then get a larger diameter pipe.

You might want to run your numbers again as one of us is incorrect. I just ran the numbers ang got a round 4 inch stack at only 25.8 inches. It could definitely be me that’s wrong but it’s worth checking.....

Sir the size of the CC is 36”w x 24”d x 25”t. I ran them again and came up with the same 32.68”. Please let me know if you came up with the same. Thank you

You have to know the dimensions of the FB to get the correct stack length. I figured the FB at 112% and came up with a 4'' X 32.25" stack so your current stack length will be fine. I also found that anytime I change the dimensions of the FB, I had to re- enter the stack size before the calculator would update the required stack length.

Your original post only gave 2 dimensions for the cook chamber forcing me to assume it was a tank (I also put in a 110% firebox). Now that you have added a third dimension making it a square cc, I concur with Big T in that all is correct. The discrepancy was caused by the decrease in volume from a rectangle to cylinder.
