help with counter balancing lid

hi all, new to forum. i'm doing a offset smoker build. using 20'' x 3/8 wall pipe. lid is 38 long and about 60 + lbs. looking for design help. i want to use the type that attaches to lid near hinges not sure the term for that style. thanks in advance for any help.

If you look at some of the other builds you can see some examples of how the looks works out. What I do for my designs tho is run the counter weight on a 60*angle and make the length to where it will rest on the back of the smoker to hold the lid open. then before I cap the ends I add sticks of rebar inside the counter weight until I like the feel of it. then stitch them in place and weld the caps on. :beer:

:oopssign: , thats where I went wrong!, I didn`t stitch the reo bar together, so it rattles when I open the door!! :hissy:

That's not a rattle Mac - It's a design feature to let people in the area know that food is almost ready! Think of it as a dinner bell with attitude.

Having opened that 200 lb lid on Gus's smoker, I know from experience that his design works well, lol
