Gathering materials for Mini GF

Hi all started this thread as I will be starting to build a mini GF in the next few months.

I’ve got the plans already and sent the dxf file of for a quote. I’m trying to source materials such as the insulation. What you think would this be ok https://shop.vitcas.com/ceramic-fibre-b ... 430-3.html or is this over kill. It comes in roll form.

Thanks for the reply. Did you somehow fasten it so that it did not slump/slide down between the inner and exterior plates. I see others have used slabs and they are rigid so they don’t have worry about it.

I sourced the roxul Insulation at the local big box store

Wickes do 50mm rockwool slabs and it's half the price of your roll insulation.

Yep, when I built a DP I could not easily source slab insulation. So... I tacked a whole herd of smallish nails to the outside of the cook chamber and hung the insulation from them. I over did it by a fair margin, you probably only need around three rows of 6 nails. Just a quick tack weld with the mig or tig holding the nail with pliers and you are done. You can purchcase the proper little strips of hooks, but I'm a tight arse so did it the hard way.

Agreed....I tacked 6-8 roofing nails to the wall on each side of my 20x20 inch firebox and it has held perfectly for the last 3+ years and countless smokes. Ceramic is pretty solid...I’m not convinced you need to much support.
