Skin job

Post by Mgraves » May 21st, 2019, 8:31 pm

Working skin on the outside went well. Stuffing with insulation. Putting 12 ga corner trim on. Got to use the new jet break. Lots and lots of welding.

Flame latch and handle.

Post by Mgraves » May 21st, 2019, 8:53 pm

This lady is heavy! So we bent pipe to make a handle/ shelf. Flame behind the latch was to fix a miss alignment of holes. I always seem to learn more from the mistakes.

Top dressing

Post by Mgraves » May 21st, 2019, 9:02 pm

I would like to say this was done just for the hell of it! It’s to hide some warping when the stack was welded up! Learning from mistakes. Top comes off with 4 screws. Gives a drip edge for the door, keeping rain out. ??

Frist burn will be tomorrow! Season everything! Then find out how it runs. Test everything out, plan to use it for a large fundraiser ffa bbq. We server 2100 pork burgers and 1000 pork steaks. With all the fixings, Cheesy taters, green beans and desserts.

Little help!

Post by Mgraves » September 27th, 2019, 4:37 pm

Took about two hrs to get up 350! (For seasoning) Dumped a full Weber chimney full of coal in. Then a 16 lb bag of kingsford. I keep getting puffs of smoke back drafting out the air in take. It was windy today so I turned the air intake into the wind. Seamed to help. Once at temp ran smoothly. Guessing the back draft was slowing warm up??? Looking for suggestions? I fully expect 1hr warm up. Thanks for any advice!

I allow for at least 2 hours for my DP to come up to temp. Doesn't to make that much difference if it's 80 F ambient, or -10.

I have no experience with a LavaLock.

I do have a couple of years experience with a HeaterMeter. If you're not interested in tinkering, the HeaterMeter is not your solution. It is a very effective controller, though.

You can get them to warm up faster if you leave the chute door open for 10-15 minutes after you load up over the lit coals. After you close the chute door, leave the ash door open for another 15-20 minutes. I struggled with it for a while too. I did notice that mine heats up faster using briquets instead of lump, so that will help your cause too.
