GF firebox sizing

Post by Overspray » February 11th, 2020, 5:17 pm

Does anyone know what the proper BTU Or sizing ratio would be for a gravity fed firebox to cook chamber? I’m sure it’s been discussed before but can’t seem to find yay or nay, or any info relating to it. I’ve purchased both double pan and mini plans. Just curious for other ideas that are constantly rolling around in my brain.

I don't think that info is on the site but you can call the number on the plans that you have and speak with Frank or Tom and they will help you out.

If you have the plans can you work it out from cook chamber size and firebox size. See if there a rough common ratio between mini and double pan?

Diggerg - I did that between the two, its not a proportional difference of cook chamber vs actual burn volume of charcoal.

1 percent of total cook chamber
If you have 16000 square inches of cook chamber
You require 160 square inches of fire box

Texas - the cook chamber on the double pan build is 34684in3. The actual burn area in the firebox is only 168.75in3, which equates to about a half percent of CC volume.

The mini is 12673in3, burn area is 112.5in3. About 9/10 of a percent. Closer to your estimate but that doesn’t equate to the larger build.
