Matt's gravity feed

Post by MattJ » March 29th, 2020, 7:08 pm

I started this build around Christmas. Finally got some paint on it. Still need to bolt on a door handle. Here are a few pics from the build.

Hey...

I'm doing some research on the GF.

Was it a money saver to build and paint it on your own vs. buy one on the market? If so, how much did you save?

With the current prices for steel, it's probably a little cheaper to buy a used unit vs build a new one. There are a few other things to consider like the customization factor and also how well it's built and insulated. Not all cookers are created equally but most of the big name builders put out a quality product.

Big T is right. Steel prices are very high right now. I would go ahead and plan the build but wait for prices to go down. If you don't want to wait then check used units.

Just read an article on steel futures and they are predicting steel prices to hold steady into first quarter of 2022.

Just get started. Buy a little at a time.

When comparing costs, look at the features you want and go from there. Baseline smokers may seem to be a good deal but when you start accessorizing them the benefits of building become more economical (in my humble opinion).
