Double Pan Gravity Feed vs Double Pan Reverse Flow Cabinet

Post by dgilbert71 » December 25th, 2020, 3:22 pm

So I was almost sold on buying the plans for the double pan gravity feed, and then I saw the double pan reverse flow cabinet plans! I can’t find any builds on the the reverse flow double pan cabinet. Does anyone have experience with that style? The reason I’m building this size is to do big cooks for benefits or fun raisers. Any info or pictures of the reverse flow double pan cabinet and the build difficulty between the two? Thanks!

Dont know the difficulty between the two, but the GF is pretty much a set it and forget it cooking machine. If you buy a fan controller like the Flameboss 500, you can kick back in the house and watch the smartphone to see temps, fan percentage (Which lets you know if fuel getting low or ash plugging burner, because it'll kick up to a higher percentage rate which you see on a graph on the phone). With all stick burners (which I also love using) you will need to tend the fire more often approx every 45 minutes or so. I know I didnt really answer the question about one vs the other is easier to build. It seems like there is a little more work in the GF if you do it from scratch. And if U buy the parts from this site I think they run around 3.5K plus shipping! I did mine from scratch without plans, and it works fine. I have under $1K in it which includes a $300 controller (flameboss 500) which I purchased from this site..

Wow thanks for the reply! I have a kamado joe and use a controller on it. That’s what I’m hoping for is a huge increase in capacity with a controller so I can do long cooks through the night. I have a big offset with a vertical chamber that I love and has lots of capacity, but I want to do big cooks with little effort!! LOL!

Thanks for the replies! So far the fact that I can find lots of gravity feed information and hardly no info on reverse flow cabinet builds seems like gravity feed is the way to go. I’m really new to welding just started this year, but with the plans and this forum I’m ready to bite off more than I can chew! LOL!!
Thanks!!

A cold saw would make your life easier for cutting plate. Search that up on this forum as well as plasma cutter. There are a lot if cheap ones out there. And guys have posted brands and websites about theirs too, which u can find good info. on this site..A grinder and cutting discs are a must if U don’t have one already. After your done with your build, you will be so handy that U will have tons of side work with all of your new skills. Post your build pics here. Once friends find out what you can do, they will b flocking in droves for your stuff!! Seriously:)

Cabinet style reverse flows or indirect flows can do the exact same thing as GF as far as ease of use and length of cook time. Most people don't know that, plus the Fireboard or Guru or Billows can keep those things better than an electric oven.

Just check out Lone Star Grillz Large insulated cabinet. https://lonestargrillz.com/collections/ ... ed-cabinet

It can run on a full tray of charcoal for over 24 hours.

But as far as dgilbert71 is concerned - you are right there aren't many plans or people doing them right now.
